How MODE Transportation Scaled Freight Operations to Millions of Daily TransactionsA connected transportation platform supports millions of records, loads, dispatches, and bids each day across a network of more than 50,000 carriers.
MODE Transportation is a US-based, non-asset-based transportation and logistics company operating under MODE Global. Founded in 1989, it provides freight brokerage, transportation management, supply chain, and logistics technology services across North America and international markets.
Its network connects shippers with more than 50,000 carriers and millions of transportation assets across multiple freight modes.
50,000+ carriers across the transportation network
Millions of records, loads, dispatches, and bids processed daily
Freight quoting, procurement, load management, and dispatch
Truckload, LTL, intermodal, ocean, air, and parcel transportation
Real-time shipment and operational visibility
Large-scale transportation data ingestion and processing
At this scale, the challenge is not simply moving more freight. The platform has to keep carrier activity, bids, dispatches, and shipment data moving without slowing the teams running day-to-day operations. Bringing those workflows together gave us a stronger foundation for managing a much larger transportation network.
MODE's transportation ecosystem connects shippers, carriers, logistics teams, loads, bids, dispatches, and multiple transportation modes.
The challenge was keeping those workflows connected while processing millions of daily transportation records and transactions. High-volume data ingestion and bidding could not be allowed to slow the operational systems teams relied on to quote, assign, dispatch, and track freight.
The platform therefore needed complete transportation workflows and an architecture capable of improving high-volume processing efficiency by roughly 20–30% as operational demand increased.
Managing information across 50,000+ carriers
Processing millions of loads and dispatches
Handling millions of bids each day
Ingesting millions of transportation records
Coordinating freight quoting and capacity procurement
Supporting six transportation modes
Providing real-time operational visibility
Maintaining application and database performance at scale
The platform had to keep these high-volume workflows connected without letting scale slow down day-to-day freight operations.
TechnBrains built MODE as a connected transportation platform, with carrier management, freight requests, bidding, dispatching, shipment tracking, and analytics sharing a common operational foundation. Large-scale ingestion and processing workloads were separated from the transactional systems handling day-to-day transportation activity.
The platform supports operations across more than 50,000 carriers, connecting carrier profiles, transportation capabilities, load opportunities, bidding, dispatching, and carrier activity.
Freight requests and quotes move through load creation, booking, dispatch, and shipment execution within connected workflows. TechnBrains developed the APIs, business logic, and SQL Server data workflows supporting these activities.
Carrier bidding was built directly into the transportation workflow so teams could source capacity, evaluate opportunities, select carriers, and move into load assignment.
MODE supports Truckload, Less-Than-Truckload, Intermodal, Ocean, Air, and Parcel transportation. Reusable transportation workflows allowed those modes to operate through one platform instead of requiring independent systems.
Azure SignalR handles real-time communication around loads, bids, dispatches, and shipment activity.
MODE's platform had to process millions of records and transactions without allowing data-intensive workloads to interfere with freight operations.
Core transportation workflows ran through C#, ASP.NET, .NET, and SQL Server. Azure Functions handled large-volume data ingestion, while Azure HDInsight processed those workloads separately from the transactional application. Azure SignalR supported real-time communication.
Performance engineering remained part of development throughout the project. TechnBrains also worked directly with Microsoft on Azure performance monitoring and optimization, helping reduce peak processing overhead by approximately 27% while identifying Azure SignalR bugs under demanding workloads.
MODE gained a transportation platform connecting carrier management, freight quoting, bidding, capacity procurement, load management, dispatching, shipment visibility, and multi-modal transportation. Behind those workflows, the architecture supports millions of transportation records, loads, dispatches, and bids each day while keeping large-scale processing separate from core operational activity and reducing manual operational status checks by approximately 33%.
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Complex carrier information | 50,000+ carriers with 24% less coordination |
| High-volume freight workloads | Millions of loads with 31% faster progression |
| Manual capacity sourcing | Millions of bids with 28% faster processing |
| Multiple transportation systems | Six modes with 22% fewer workflow handoffs |
| Manual operational status checking | Real-time updates, 33% fewer manual checks |
MODE needed transportation functionality and high-performance architecture to evolve together. Adding freight workflows without addressing processing scale would have created performance problems as transaction volumes increased.
TechnBrains worked across the .NET application, SQL Server data layer, transportation workflows, Azure processing architecture, real-time communication, and ongoing performance optimization, contributing to 20–35% improvements across several high-volume operational workflows.
When a platform is processing millions of transportation records and bids every day, performance becomes part of the product itself. We separated high-volume processing from the core freight workflows so dispatch, bidding, tracking, and carrier operations could continue working reliably as transaction volumes grew.
TechnBrains helps logistics teams build and modernize platforms for dispatch, carrier management, tracking, telematics, and high-volume freight workflows. If disconnected systems are slowing operations, we can help identify what needs to change first.
